With a wide range of on-site projects throughout the day, the risk for injuries in warehouses can be much higher than seen in other occupations. Between moving vehicles, loading docks, and heavy objects stored up high, it is extremely important to us that each employee is working in a careful, safe environment.
Given the diverse nature of warehouse environments, it can be a challenge to ensure every safety measure is being completed correctly. Going through these procedures might seem like a burden to some, but it is so important because it affects the backbone of our company: our employees.
The safety of our employees is our number one priority. In order to provide exceptional services to our clients, we start by taking care of our team.
Here are a few ways we ensure warehouse safety:
Cleanliness
With so many special items from trade shows and events in our warehouses, our storage racks fill up easily. Injury can occur if items begin to overflow into the aisles. The best way to avoid slips, trips, and falls involves keeping the floors clear. Employees are constantly going through multiple aisles to transport client items with forklifts and machinery. Therefore, each aisle needs to have enough room for our team to move through safely. We protect our team members by making sure every item is stored on the racks and away from aisles.
Dress Code
When working in the warehouse, it is crucial that each employee wears the proper safety gear. Anyone who comes into our warehouse -guests and clients included- must wear closed-toe shoes. Depending on the job at hand, some employees might have to wear safety goggles, gloves, and hard hats to protect themselves.
Organization
Keeping our storage racks organized not only creates efficient accessibility, but it also helps keep our team safe. Despite being made from heavy-duty materials, if the items on our custom racks are not secured properly, they can cause major damage in the event of a collapse. For stored inventory, height can be a major risk factor. We have established a system in which each crate and container gets stored securely and labeled properly to minimize any risk.
Training
In a warehouse environment, it can be easy to grow accustomed to everyday equipment and routines. Unfortunately, it is when comfort and complacency set in that workers underestimate potential dangers and make mistakes. Along with rules and regulations that our team abides by, training is a key component of true safety. Training not only teaches and reminds employees how to be safe but also why they should be safe.
Taking the proper precautions to create a safe working place for our team is the first step in creating a successful business. We value each employee and care about their safety, as it affects not only our team but their families as well.
