Pyramid Logistics on Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary Tour

 

 

“It started 50 years ago- a colorful community of monsters, birds, grouches, and humans.”

For over two months this summer, we traveled across the country with everyone’s favorite childhood characters to celebrate the 50th year of Sesame Street.

With a mission to help kids everywhere gro[ ]w smarter, stronger, and kinder, Sesame Street has brought the life-changing benefits of early learning to children across the globe for 50 years. To celebrate their anniversary, they set out to travel all across the country to create community events for families to gather in outdoor venues for live performances and kid-friendly fun.

Within the span of two months, the tour brought in 50,000 attendees, 50 visits to iconic landmarks, 16 community partners joining in local events, and 12 proclamations declaring “Sesame Street Day” by Governors, Mayors, and other public officials to honor the show’s five decades of inclusive programming and groundbreaking work for children.

 

Our truck driver, John Perkins, was the main driver for this project. He, along with another driver, took two trucks to every city to bring the Sesame Street magic to life for children and families.

 

From building the stage to setting up original set pieces like the famous green door and Oscar the Grouch’s trash can, this project brought back nostalgic and heartwarming memories for everyone.

 

In total, John and the Sesame Street crew traveled over 8,500 miles and stopped in 10 different cities across the country.

Each stop on the 10-city tour unfolded over three days, bringing together community partners, elected officials, and families to highlight the many ways that Sesame Street helps kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.
